MRT Stations along the Jurong Region Line to open in Three Stages from 2027 to 2029

Singapore’s transport system is set to get a boost with the introduction of the Jurong Region Line (JRL), a new MRT line that will connect the western part of Singapore with the existing MRT network. The JRL will be a 24 km-long elevated line with 24 stations, and it is expected to be fully operational by 2028. The JRL is part of Singapore’s plan to enhance connectivity and accessibility for residents, and it will serve as a vital link for residents living in the western part of Singapore.

The Jurong Region Line to Open in Three Stages

The JRL will be opened in three stages, with the first stage opening in 2027, the second stage opening in 2028, and the final stage opening in 2029. The first stage will comprise ten stations from Choa Chu Kang to Tawas, the second stage will consist of ten stations from Tengah to Pandan Reservoir, and the final stage will include the four stations from Jurong Pier to Peng Kang Hill.

The JRL will be the first MRT line in Singapore to have an integrated depot, which will provide maintenance and operational support for the line. The depot will also include a train stabling area, a workshop, and a control center. The depot is located near the Tawas station, and it will be able to house up to 60 trains.

The Jurong Region Line to Feature New Innovations

The JRL will feature several new technologies, including automatic track inspection systems, condition monitoring systems, and predictive maintenance systems. These systems will help to ensure the smooth operation of the line and reduce downtime.

The JRL will serve several important areas in western Singapore, including Jurong East, Jurong West, Choa Chu Kang, Bukit Batok, and Tengah. The line will also provide connectivity to several major transport hubs, including Jurong East MRT station, Bukit Panjang Integrated Transport Hub, and Choa Chu Kang Bus Interchange.

The JRL will also serve several important institutions, including the upcoming Jurong Innovation District, the Nanyang Technological University, and the Jurong Lake Gardens. The line will provide easy access to these institutions, allowing residents to enjoy the amenities and facilities available in these areas.

On the other hand, the Thomson-East Coast Line Stage 3 (TEL3) started passenger services on 13 November 2022 to provide commuters with a quicker and more direct connection to the city centre. SMRT Corporation, a leading multi-modal transport operator, is operating Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) for a nine-year period. Commenting on the same, SMRT Chairman, Seah Moon Ming, said: “SMRTworked closely with the Land Transport Authority and system suppliers to prepare for a smooth opening of Stage 3 of the new Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL).”

SMRT Chairman further added: “SMRT is working on the Operations Control Centre (OCC) to respond more swiftly to train traffic anomalies through the use of video analytics and artificial intelligence (AI), which also allows for remote monitoring on mobile devices. The OCC will be implemented on the North-South and East-West Lines (NSEWL) and the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL).”
