He received the Public Service Star [BBM] from the President of the Republic of Singapore in 2014. When appointed as SMRT chairman, he stepped down as chief executive of Pavilion Energy (Temasek unit) in December 2017. After his appointment, he commented that he stepped down from his role at Pavilion because he wants to focus on his new SMRT role and devote more time towards the growth of the company.
